The US American Scott Alexander Scheffler (* June 21, 1996) plays on the PGA Tour. From March to October 2022 he was number 1 in the official world golf rankings. He won the 2022 Masters tournament.

Scheffler was born to Diane and Scott Scheffler in Ridgewood, New Jersey, and lived in Montvale, New Jersey, until age six, when the family moved to Dallas, Texas, after the Sept. 11 attacks. Scheffler's father, Scott, was a stay-at-home dad, while his mother, Diane, worked at a law firm.

Interest in golf sparked at age 3

His interest in golf began at age 3 when his parents gave him a set of plastic clubs and a ball. After moving to Dallas, Scheffler received lessons at Royal Oaks Golf Club from Randy Smith, who coached Justin Leonard to a victory at The Open Championship in 1997. Scheffler was very successful at the youth level, winning 75 times on the PGA junior circuit.

He played golf and basketball at Highland Park High School in Dallas, a suburb of University Park. There, Scheffler won individual state titles at the varsity level three years in a row (2012-2014), setting a record set by fellow senior Jordan Spieth.

From 2014-2018 at the University of Texas

Scheffler was then recruited to play collegiate golf at the University of Texas from 2014 to 2018, where he helped the team win three Big 12 Championships and was named the 2015 Phil Mickelson Freshman of the Year. He was also part of the U.S. team that won the Walker Cup in 2017.

In 2016, Scheffler qualified for his first US Open, as he did in 2017 after surviving a 4-on-3 playoff to earn a spot in the field. He and Cameron Champ were the only two amateurs to make that qualification for the 2017 US Open. Scheffler finished at 1-under-par as an amateur, one stroke ahead of Champ.

After great success at the Korn Ferry Tour Finals, Scheffler topped both the Finals points list and the overall points list in 2019, earning a PGA Tour card for the 2020 season and later being named the Korn Ferry Tour's Player of the Year.

On Feb. 13, 2022, Scheffler won the World Cup PhoeniX Open, and three weeks later won his second PGA Tour title by winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Orlando, Florida. Again three weeks later, Scheffler won the WGC-Dell Technologies Matchplay in Austin, Texas. With this victory, Scheffler moved up to number one in the official world golf rankings.

Victory over Rory McIlroy

On April 10, 2022, Scheffler won the Masters Tournament, defeating Rory McIlroy by three strokes. Scheffler became the fifth golfer to compete and win the Masters Tournament ranked No. 1 in the world, joining Ian Woosnam (1991), Fred Couples (1992), Tiger Woods (2001, 2002) and Dustin Johnson (2020).

The victory was his fourth for the 2022 PGA Tour season, making him the first golfer since Arnold Palmer in 1960 and only the second ever to win that many events, including the Masters, during that span.

PGA Tour Player of the Year 2022

It was his fourth win in his last 6 starts. In September 2022, Scheffler was named the 2022 PGA Tour Player of the Year and received the Jack Nicklaus Award for the first time.

Scheffler is married to Meredith Scheffler (born Scudder). His father, Scott Scheffler, grew up in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, and attended St. Cecilia High School in Englewood. His mother, Diane, grew up in Park Ridge, New Jersey.

Believer Christian

Scheffler has three sisters named Callie, Molly and Sara. He is a devout Christian. He attends Bible study with his caddie, Ted Scott, who caddied for Bubba Watson for 15 years.

When he asked Scott to be his caddie, Scheffler said, "I really want to work with a Christian. That's how I try to live my life."
