Marcel Siem (* July 15, 1980 in Mettmann) is a German professional golfer.

At the age of 6, as Siem himself describes it, he stood in front of the starting times list at his home golf club. He wanted to know if he was on it. He couldn't read yet, but he could play golf. After all, he already had a handicap of 36, and he was the youngest participant in the "SONY Young Master 1986.

The story of an exceptional golfer

This is how the story of an exceptional golfer begins. He remembers: "The golf course and the bunkers were my home, whereby the driver was always the greatest thing for me..., trying everything, shortening doglegs, hitting over the trees - taking risks. 'No risk, no fun' - that was my motto early on and is still part of my game today."

Golf, Siem knows very well, is the only sport where all players can compete with each other, regardless of age, gender, or game handicap.

Fighting with clubs and against opponents

As the youngest, he had to struggle not only with the club and the ball, but also with the tricks of his older teammates.

But he prevailed and is now one of the best German golfers. He has played on the club teams of GC Overbach Much, GC Köln Refrath and GC Bergisch Land.

He did not achieve his goal at the time, which was to win the German team championship, but he can claim other titles.

Professional since 2000

Siem has been pursuing a professional career since 2000, after becoming Spanish amateur champion in 1999. He learned quickly: "Amateur golf and professional golf are two fundamentally different things. Playing on the tour is a different world. It's all about results! Every week in a different country, it can also be a different continent, but definitely a different hotel or bed."

His insight: "You're a lone wolf and on your own as a golfer, that took some getting used to and it took time to establish."

But he was sure from a young age that he wanted to play on the tour and emphasizes today, "I love my job, who is lucky enough to make their hobby their profession."

First success in 2004 in Johannesburg

Siem was a member of the German junior and men's national teams. His first major professional success was winning the Dunhill Championships in Johannesburg in 2004.

In September 2006, Siem finished second to Welshman Bradley Dredge at the tradition-rich Omega European Masters. In December 2006, he won the World Cup for Germany together with Bernhard Langer.

Victorious at Open de France 2012

Siem celebrated the biggest success of his career to date by winning the Open de France 2012; in March 2013, he won the Trophée Hassan II in Agadir, Morocco.

In November 2014, Siem went into the final round of the BMW Masters in China in third place, five strokes behind. After a round of 73, he joined England's Ross Fisher and France's Alexander Lévy in reaching the play-off, which he won on the first extra hole with a chip for birdie.

Win with 918,944 euros in prize money

With the win, Siem secured by far the highest prize money of his career so far with 918,944 euros and finished fourth in the Race to Dubai.

With his first win on the Challenge Tour at the 2021 Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge, he qualified for the 2021 Open Championship. There he was able to stay in the top group for a long time and finished the tournament in 15th place (shared).
