Samuel Holland "Sam" Burns

Sam Burns (born July 23, 1996 in Shreveport, Louisiana) is an American professional golfer who plays on the PGA Tour. He played college golf at Louisiana State University. In 2021 he won the Valspar Championship and the Sanderson Farms Championship.

Burns was born to Todd and Beth Burns. He was a three-time individual state champion during his prep career at Calvary Baptist Academy.

In 2014 AJGA Rolex Junior Player of the Year.

2014, he was named the AJGA Rolex Junior Player of the Year. Burns played collegiate golf at Louisiana State University, where he won four tournaments in 15 collegiate starts during his sophomore season.

He was named a first-team All-American and was the NCAA Division I Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year for the 2016/17 season. Burns represented the United States on the 2017 Arnold Palmer Cup winning team and qualified for the PGA Tour's 2017 Barbasol Championship.

Made professional debut on the PGA Tour in 2017

In October 2017, Burns made his PGA Tour professional debut at the Sanderson Farms Championship. After finishing the tournament in 43rd place, he played in the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open a week later, where he tied for 20th.

Burns earned guaranteed starts for the first 12 Web.com Tour events of the 2018 season with his 10th-place finish in the final stage of the Web.com Tour qualifying tournament.

Tiger Woods as playing partner

He finished 2nd at the Columbia Championship in February 2018 and 7th at the Honda Classic, and with Tiger Woods as his playing partner in the final round, he secured entry into the Valspar Championship, where he tied for 12th.

Burns scored his first professional victory at the 2018 Savannah Golf Championship on the Web.com Tour when he birdied each of the final three holes, edging Roberto Castro by one stroke for 2nd place. At the end of the 2018 Web.com season, he won a spot on the PGA Tour.

Burns has been playing on the PGA Tour since the start of the 2018/19 season. In February 2021, he finished 3rd solo at the Genesis Invitational, one stroke outside the playoff with Tony Finau and Max Homa, with Homa ultimately winning.

Burns held the solo lead at the end of each of the first three rounds, but was caught on the back 9 in the final round. In May, Burns won the Valspar Championship. It was his first win on the PGA Tour.

Final round of 68

Burns played a closing round of 68 to win by three strokes over Keegan Bradley. Two weeks later, Burns finished second to K.H. Lee at the AT&T Byron Nelson.

On Oct. 3, 2021, Burns won his second PGA Tour title at the Sanderson Farms Championship in Jackson, Mississippi. On March 20, 2022, Burns won his second consecutive Valspar Championship title, beating Davis Riley in a playoff.

Holed 12-yard birdie putt

On May 29, 2022, Burns won the Charles Schwab Challenge after holing a 12-yard birdie putt in a playoff against Scottie Scheffler.

He overcame a seven-stroke deficit to win and - like Nick Price in 1994 - made the biggest comeback in a final round to ultimately win at Colonial Country Club.

Burns qualified for the U.S. team at the 2022 Presidents Cup. He eventually won two of the five matches he played.

Sam Burns lives as a practicing Christian. He is married to Caroline Burns.
