Born in Mettmann on December 28, 1984, Martin Kaymer is one of Germany's top golfers. He has won two majors in the course of his career and successfully played the decisive putt for the German team at the Ryder Cup in 2012.

Kaymer is the second German after Bernhard Langer ever to play his way to the top of the world golf rankings.

Golf affinity runs in the family

Kaymer's affinity for the game with the little white ball runs in his family, which is completely addicted to the golf virus. Father Horst first introduced Martin and his brother Philipp to golf at the age of ten.

Before that, Martin Kaymer also played soccer successfully. He later started for the national golf league club GC Bergisch Land in Wuppertal, where he celebrated his greatest successes as an amateur.

Handicap 0 at the age of 15

At the age of 15, he already achieved a handicap of 0 and, as a multi-talented sportsman, had to decide between a career as a golfer or a soccer player. Martin Kaymer chose the individual sport of golf, because he wanted to be solely responsible for his success and no longer be dependent on the performance of his fellow players.

As a team player, Martin Kaymer has already represented Europe four times at the Ryder Cup with varying degrees of success. But Martin Kaymer and this special tournament will still be linked in many years to come with a very specific stroke from 2012: It was his putt that gave Europe the "Miracle of Medinah" after a historic comeback on the final day.

The putt had to be played over a length of almost two meters, slightly uphill and with a gentle break to the left.

A tremor

In 1991, Bernhard Langer had given away the victory for Europe in a similar situation. A real tremor stroke, then, for any golfer, especially a professional in a team situation.

But this time everything fell into place, Kaymer withstood the pressure, safely converted the decisive putt and left his mark on Europe's unique race to catch up.

First Major Victory in 2010

Martin Kaymer has already won 12 trophies on the European Tour and the PGA Tour. His first major victory came at the PGA Championship in 2010. Four years later, in 2014, Martin Kaymer, who was born in Mettmann in 1984, won his second major title at the US Open.

Martin Kaymer's particular strength is the fade. A fade is characterized by a left-right curve, and Kaymer masters this stroke like almost no other.

Privately, Kaymer is lovers with Irene Scholz, and their son Sam was born at the beginning of 2022. Martin Kaymer described this experience as an "indescribable moment.
